ENG - "Under the shades of Plàtanos" is a photographic journey through the main processing stages de los platanos de Canarias, the true economic weath and development sector of the Canary Islands. In fact, this type of banana, belonging to the Cavendish group, represents a real pride for the locals since it is the only variety to have obtained European recognition as a protected geographical indication (PGI). This banana plant has the peculiarity of growing only in the Spanish archipelago of the Atlantic Ocean, thanks to the perfect climatic conditions present all year round, the altitude, the quality of the volcanic soil and the continuous exposure to the sun.
The project scenario is one of the largest banana plantations in the west of Tenerife, where I was welcomed by the managers as in a real family. The following shots show the activity carried out by the workers daily, starting from the process of cutting plants that have finished their natural cycle and their counting on the large stems of the leaves, up to the insertion of the ready bananas and their loading on the truck that the next day will bring them to the market stalls.
